How It All Started

January 2006, our Founder & CEO, Quan Jiang, then a Chemical Engineering undergraduate from McMaster University, started his 1-year process engineering internship at Glencore Kidd Metallurgical Site. Under the mentoring, coaching and influence from several Master Black Belt and Black Belts, he quickly developed strong interests around Six Sigma methodology and started learning on how to apply it to improve performance. This ultimately shaped his career path and marked the beginning of our QuantumQ approach.

Six Sigma Black Belt Certification

Upon graduation in 2008, Quan accepted the job offer from Glencore as a Process Engineer and was offered the formal 5 week long Six Sigma Black Belt training. Sept 2009, after successfully resolving a 10 year old operation issue and reducing defects by 80%, Quan was offered the exception to bypass the Black Belt certification requirements.

  1. He became the 1st person to be certified as a Six Sigma Black Belt in his training wave.
  2. His certification project resulted in a Net Present Value of $8.4 M USD.

Solving a problem that no one could for 10 years, including a seasoned PhD metallurgical consultant, Quan started to believe more in Six Sigma and statistics. Through his mining tenure, Quan became exceptionally good with statistical data analysis, modelling, and process troubleshooting.

Combine Lean, Six Sigma and Kaizen

2010, Quan joined Irving Tissue, a world class tissue paper manufacturing company, as the Quality Process Engineer.

  • Within 5 months of employment, Quan helped reducing key consumer complaints by 60%
  • Within 10 months , Quan helped cut manufacturing waste by $500K+ per year leveraging the law of cause & effect and 80/20.

Quan was promoted as the Continuous Improvement manager after one year, and helped the company to realize additional $5.7 M annualized savings.

Leveraging hardcore statistics and monte carol simulation, Quan also quantified a ~ $10 M raw materials saving opportunity by challenging the finished product specification status quo (3.9 inch).

Kaizen and More Kaizen

2015, Quan joined Niagara Region, a regional municipality government, as the Continuous Improvement Manager.  Within 3 months, the organization started to conduct Kaizen events to improve business process, ranging from Public Health to Public Works, HR to Legal, and Community Service to Economical Development.

At his last day of employment,  Quan was still found on the road giving a motivational speech to 50+ Waste Management division leaders to inspire continuous improvement mindset.

Profit/Loss Turnaround

2016, Quan joined Sodexo, a global food service and facilities management service provider, as the Director of Operational Excellence, and started his journey in business profit/loss turn around.

During the 7+ years, Quan achieved a 90%+ success rate and 4%+ profitability/cost improvement for 40+ sites in Canada and US.  Quan was named the go to problem solver and data whisperer.  Prior to launching QuantumQ Corporation, Quan had a wait time of 18+ months for new support requests.
